Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants presented grant awards totaling over $74,000 to artists and organizations throughout Cayuga, Seneca, Wayne, Yates, and Ontario Counties for 2015. The grant awards are made in three categories – Community Arts Grants, Individual Artist Grants, and Arts Education Grants at an awards reception held at Auburn Public Theater. These awards are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants.
24 Community Arts Grants received funding for 2015, serving an estimated audience of over 50,000 people. CA Grants support the arts and cultural activities of non-profit groups, organizations and artists in Cayuga, Seneca, Wayne, Yates, and Ontario Counties. Recipients can be found from Auburn to Middlesex, Geneva to Newark, Sodus Bay to Ovid, and many more! These include professional and community based arts activities benefiting the general public in theater, dance, music, film, storytelling, literature, visual arts, historical and cultural activities, and the use of libraries and museums as venues for the arts. CA Grant programs are designed to serve all ages and ethnically diverse populations from all geographic areas of all five counties.
Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants is excited to be able to include three Individual Artist Grants in the 2015 Awards. This grant program supports the creation of new work by an individual artist, which involves the community as context for and in the creation of the work.
Arts Education Grants support in-school collaborations between artists and/or cultural organizations and teachers to bring art into a public school curriculum. The focus is on sequential, skill based knowledge, and broadening the scope of how children learn a section of their prescribed courses. Two such projects were approved for funding to take place during 2015.
